Elbel Park Golf Course is only a short drive from downtown South Bend, golfers will experience the natural beauty of the parkland setting that incorporates numerous nature areas, the Mud Lake wetlands, animal habitats and stunning terrain. Elbel is a full-service golf course, appealing to golfers of various skill levels. The tree-lined, bentgrass tees give way to the immaculately manicured fairways. Erskine Park Golf Course is a historic and challenging course in the heart of South Bend, Erskine Park opened in 1925 and continues to connect generations of golfers. Playing to a Par of 70 at 6100 yards, it’s scenic rolling hills and beautifully maintained bent grass greens have hosted iconic greats from Arnold Palmer to John Wooden, affording all who play the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of legends. 

Located in downtown South Bend, the East Race Waterway is a one-of-a-kind recreational facility. As the first artificial white water course in North America, its rapids rival those of the Colorado River and can generate waves up to six feet or higher. It is approximately 2,000 feet long with a total fall of about 12 feet depending on the flow of the river. The water level can be controlled via three headgates and the placement of obstacles that create whitewater turbulence from novice to professional levels. The banks of the East Race offer more than five miles of paved and lighted walking/running paths along the scenic St. Joseph River.

Kennedy Water Playground Kennedy Water Playground opened in 2000 as a low-depth, interactive water playground. With a slide, tire swing, and multiple spray features it is somewhere that all children can enjoy “pool time” with older siblings, grandparents or other adult guardians. Kennedy Water Playground also has two small pavilions inside the pool area. There are multiple picnic tables that are on a first-come first-served basis for all patrons. Kennedy Water Playground also has a concession stand.

Howard Park’s 16,000 square foot ice trail and pond is a premier winter destination for the South Bend region.  The ice trail features rolling hills and soft curves that provide skaters with a diverse terrain when making their way around the loop. The ice pond is attached to the ice trail but provides a more traditional skating experience with an isolated skating area that can be used for learning to skate or skating activities like broomball.
